MAURICE AMPAW BACKTRACKS ON PROMISE TO RELOCATE TO TOGO IF MAHAMA WINS 2024 ELECTION

Private legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw has reversed his earlier declaration that he would leave Ghana for Togo if John Dramani Mahama won the 2024 presidential election. Speaking on GTV Ghana, Ampaw admitted that his remarks were a mere political strategy aimed at rallying supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to vote against Mahama.

According to him, he never intended to leave Ghana, a country he has lived in for 57 years without even possessing a passport. “During the campaign, I was on the side of Bawumia, and I made several political statements, including saying I would leave for Togo if Mahama won. But that was just a gimmick. Ghana is far better than Togo, and I was only trying to mobilize support,” he stated.

Ampaw further acknowledged that Mahama’s victory had taught him a lesson about the unpredictability of politics. “At the end of the day, Mahama proved to me that everything is possible. I never thought he could return, but he did,” he added. His statement highlights the intensity of campaign rhetoric and the lengths politicians and their supporters go to in influencing voter behavior.
