NEW MEDIA ASSOCIATION OF GHANA CALLS FOR PEACE & MEDIA PROFESSIONALISM AHEAD OF 2024 GENERAL ELECTIONS

As Ghana approaches its pivotal general elections on December 7, the New Media Association of Ghana (NMAG) has issued a powerful call for peace and unity. In a press release dated November 22, 2024, the organization emphasized the importance of maintaining harmony before, during, and after the electoral process.

The NMAG urged all citizens, political parties, media, and stakeholders to uphold the integrity of the electoral process by promoting respectful and peaceful campaigns. “Peace is the most valuable legacy we can leave for ourselves and future generations,” the statement read.

The association called on voters to exercise discipline on election day by adhering to the guidelines set by the Electoral Commission and respecting security personnel. NMAG also appealed to the public to accept the election results gracefully and, in cases of grievances, to use appropriate legal channels rather than resorting to violence.

“Violence has never solved any problem, and it won’t solve anything now,” the release asserted.

Addressing media practitioners, the NMAG emphasized their role in shaping public opinion and urged them to prioritize truth and accuracy in their reporting. The association discouraged the spread of unverified or inflammatory information, stressing that “words matter—they can either bring us together or tear us apart.”

The NMAG concluded with a unifying message: “Peace is a collective effort. No election is worth the unity of our country. Together, we can make Ghana proud.”

This call for calm reminds us of the vital role every Ghanaian plays in ensuring that the upcoming elections further the nation’s democratic legacy.
