“NO SYMPATHY FOR HOW HE HANDLED POWER”-Vim Lady Criticizes Ken Ofori-Atta’s Tenure

Prominent broadcast journalist Afia Pokua, widely known as Vim Lady, has launched a scathing critique of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, asserting that his conduct while in office has left him with little sympathy from both his party and the Ghanaian public.

In a candid discussion, Vim Lady argued that Ofori-Atta’s unpopularity during his tenure as Finance Minister was so pronounced that even members of his own party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), petitioned President Nana Akufo-Addo to remove him from office. However, she noted, the president declined to act on these calls.

“No one in the NPP is sympathetic to Ken Ofori-Atta because of how he handled himself in power. Even the ordinary Ghanaian feels no pity for him. The Akans have a saying: power is transient,” Vim Lady stated.

Her comments come amid ongoing scrutiny of Ofori-Atta’s time in office, particularly regarding allegations of mismanagement and potential corruption. Vim Lady raised pointed questions about whether the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) had gathered sufficient evidence to prosecute Ofori-Atta but was obstructed by the former administration.

“Did the OSP have access to evidence and attempt to charge Ken Ofori-Atta under the NPP government, or did the evidence from the SML scandal only surface recently?” she questioned.

She further speculated on whether the government at the time had intervened to block potential charges against Ofori-Atta, citing his familial ties to President Akufo-Addo. “If there was evidence, did the then-government attempt to block charges against Ofori-Atta? After all, we know Ken is the president’s relative,” she added.
