Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), states that the government has no solutions to the multiple crises affecting the double-track secondary education system.
Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, during a recent meeting with clergy, cautioned against the immediate abolition of the double-track system. He emphasized that such a move could jeopardize the educational future of many students.
His remarks follow the NDC’s commitment to abolish the double-track system if it wins the 2024 elections.
Addressing NDC supporters in Gbiniyiri, located in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency, on Friday to launch her campaign tour of the Savannah Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang questioned how the abolition of the double track system would impact the educational future of numerous students.
She stated that the Education Minister’s statement confirms the government’s lack of a solution to the challenges plaguing the double-track system in secondary schools.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stated that, unlike the NPP, the NDC has carefully considered the challenges associated with the double track system and will implement interventions, including the expansion of school infrastructure, to address these issues.
She stated that the previous NDC government ended the shift system at the basic school level and would do the same at the senior level to abolish the double-track system.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang noted that although the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has overseen the deterioration of the country’s educational system, there is hope for secondary education, particularly as the NDC has practical measures to address the issues created by the government.
She urged the voters to support the NDC presidential candidate, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, as well as the NDC parliamentary candidates in the general elections on December 7.
