OCCUPYJULORBIHOUSE DEMO: POLICE OFFICERS STOLE A PHONE – Bridget Otoo

Broadcast Journalist and entrepreneur Bridget Otoo has called out the Ghana Police Service for harassing and brutalizing protesters of the OccupyJulorbiHouse protest as well as innocent bystanders, alleging that an officer of the service even stole a mobile phone from an individual in her presence.

Scores of heavily armed police officers swiftly rounded up protesters of the Democracy Hub, who had gathered at the 37 Trotro Station in Accra to stage a protest dubbed OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration. The arrested persons were transported to various police posts in the Greater Accra Region.

Bridget Otoo, who was at the scene of the happenings, reported that she was manhandled by the police and witnessed one of the police officers stealing a phone from one of the protestors.

“The police have stolen even a phone from a protester. Police, Ghana Police Service, they have stolen a phone… They have stolen a phone They stole it. They attacked the person [ and stole],” she alleged in an interview with JoyNews.

The police have been roundly criticised for stopping the OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration under the guise that they had secured an injunction against the protesters even though they had not served the injunction on the police.
