OTTO ADDO SETS RECORD AS HE BECOMES FIRST GHANAIAN COACH TO WIN A GAME AT WORLD CUP

After guiding Ghana to victory over South Korea in their team’s second match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, coach Otto Addo became the first Ghanaian to win a match at the World Cup.

Ratomir Dukovic and Milovan Rajevac, both Serbian coaches, led the Black Stars to two victories each in 2006 and 2010 to give Ghana its previous four World Cup victories.

At the 2006 World Cup, Ratomir Dukovic led Ghana to victory over the Czech Republic and the United States, and at the 2010 World Cup, Milovan Rajevac led Ghana to victory over Serbia and the United States.

At the 2014 World Cup, coach Kwesi Appiah, who was the first Ghanaian to lead Ghana to a World Cup competition, failed to win a single game.

In addition to being Ghana’s first victory under a Ghanaian coach, this World Cup match saw Ghana score three goals for the first time ever.

Mohammed Kudus scored a brace in Ghana’s exciting 3-2 victory against South Korea to keep the Black Stars alive in the competition after they barely lost their opening match against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.
