The National Peace Council (NPC) led a delegation to Nogokpo to hold a meeting with the chiefs and traditional elders of the Somey Traditional Area.

The meeting chaired by Torgbi Adamah III, Paramount Chief of the Somey Traditional Area, was to deliberate over the controversy which surrounded comments made by Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, founder and general overseer of the Perez Chapel International, and to see how best to address the issue in the interest of peace and unity.

The respected clergyman, Archbishop Agyinasare during a summit at the Perez Auditorium labeled Nogokpo as the “demonic headquarters of the Volta Region.”

The Volta area as a whole and the residents of Nogokpo were outraged by his words, which many have described as insulting and tribalistic.

The Archbishop was given a fourteen-day deadline by the leaders and elders of the town to retract his remarks and apologize to the populace.

The national peace council reportedly intervened to mediate and settle the dispute with the community’s chiefs and elders.

The preacher has been given a seven-day deadline to retract his comments and provide an apology to the Nogokpo community. This deadline must be handed to him via his lawyers.

They have, though, promised to act if the clergyman does not heed their demands.

The Paramount Chief observed that the Volta region’s inhabitants have historically been held in low regard.

Moreover, he is a revered and accomplished man of God who ought to be bringing people together rather than dividing them.

Numo Blafo Akotia Omaetu III showed appreciation to the Somey Traditional Council for the warm reception and understanding.

He assured of the Peace Council’s commitment to ensuring that the issue was resolved amicably in the interest of harmony and peaceful coexistence.
