Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has reiterated his steadfast dedication to achieving lasting peace in Bawku and its neighbouring regions.
The announcement comes after the provisional halt of previous peace initiatives, which were hindered by a longstanding chieftaincy conflict in the troubled Upper East Region.
In spite of these difficulties, the Asantehene conveyed assurance that the recent negotiation discussions with the conflicting groups would result in a lasting resolution.
Addressing a group from the UK Advanced Command and Staff Course at Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene emphasised the significance of stability for the nation’s progress.
“We need peace to develop. My duty, together with the traditional authority, is to make sure that there is peace everywhere. Therefore, we make sure that we adjudicate issues when there are conflicts so that the government can also have peace to do its work,” he said.
“Recently, there have been some communal conflicts within the upper part of Ghana, closer to Burkina Faso (Bawku), but we are putting in every effort to ensure there is a lasting peace,” he stated.
