‘WORLD CUP 2026: ‘IT’S A MISTAKE TO THINK GHANA HAS QUALIFIED’ – Otto Addo Cautions Ghanaians

Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, has made it clear that the Black Stars haven’t secured their spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup yet.

This is despite their impressive 3-0 win over Madagascar in the qualifiers.

In that match, Thomas Partey scored twice, and Mohammed Kudus added another goal, with Jordan Ayew assisting on all three.

This strong performance took place in Morocco and put Ghana in a favourable position in Group I. However, Coach Addo emphasizes the importance of staying focused.

“We are in a good position [to qualify for the 2026 World Cup], but this is also dangerous,” Addo said at the post-match press conference.

“Now, I am thinking about how to keep our heads focused [because] the job is really not done. Maybe if Comoros wins, it’s just a three-point gap ahead of Comoros, and it’s still a long way to go. We have to stay focused. If anyone thinks we are through, then he’s making a big mistake.”

There are still several matches remaining in the qualifying rounds. Addo urges his players to keep their concentration and warns against becoming overconfident.

“I have seen a lot of football, a lot of things happening, and we have to stay focused. I am happy, but like I said, the job is really not done,” he reiterated.

The team will now prepare for the next round of qualifiers in June. Their goal is to secure their place in the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
