WE RECORDED AS MANY AS 2 MILLION PRANK CALLS IN 4 MONTHS – Ghana National Fire Service cries

In the first quarter of 2022, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) revealed that it recorded up to two million hoax calls, a situation that it argues impairs its capacity to function efficiently.

Desmond Essoun Ackah, the National 2 IC of the National Public Relations Department of the Ghana National Fire Service DO III, revealed this in an interview with Alfred Ocansey on 3FM Sunrise.

Desmond Essoun Ackah bemoaned how the constant stream of prank calls on their phone lines caused delays and occasionally prevented his company from offering its services to customers who truly needed them right away.

“We have received about two million prank calls within the first four months of 2022 and most of the prank calls are made by children. It is a big challenge which means that people who are genuinely in need of our service would have their calls stuck in cue because of the pranks. Therefore, emergency response time would be delayed unnecessarily,” DO III Ackah stated, as quoted by 3news.com.

He asserts that the Ghana Fire Service lacks an effective system to enable it to track criminals, despite the fact that purposefully calling emergency services is against the law and punishable.

He did, however, emphasize that more needed to be done to address the issue, even though some offenders had been identified and dealt with as a result of the service’s diligence.

Because children are the primary offenders, the agency is seeking assistance from the media, schools, and other stakeholders to urge them to cease calling its phone lines in an inappropriate manner.
