Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, MP for Asawase, has levelled severe criticisms at Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, accusing him of increasingly displaying tyrannical tendencies.=
Muntaka, expressed his views during a Joy interview.
“I regret to say this, but when you start treating the Parliamentary Chamber like a personal fiefdom, you risk becoming a tyrant,” Muntaka stated. When asked if Bagbin was already a tyrant, he clarified, “He is becoming a tyrant.”
Muntaka further criticized Bagbin for his growing intolerance and perception of dissent as disrespect.
“As a Speaker, you should listen to all viewpoints patiently, even in disagreement. Democracy thrives on the ability to agree to disagree. When you take disagreements personally and view them as a personal affront, you fail in your role as Speaker,” he added.
Muntaka also compared Bagbin unfavorably with his predecessor, Speaker Mike Oquaye Snr., noting that Oquaye was much better at fostering consensus during his tenure.
