Sarah Adwoa Safo, who previously served as a Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, shared her thoughts on why she didn’t win the parliamentary primaries.
She attributes her loss to a misunderstanding with her political party.
During a conversation on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen, Madam Safo explained that her actions were misinterpreted, which led the party to take action against her. This decision ultimately blocked her from taking part in the primaries.
“That’s what I think the party misunderstood me on and decided to punish me, and that cost me my primaries,” she said on Tuesday, February 18, reflecting on the events leading up to her removal from the race.
She went on to say that some members within the party played a role in her defeat.
These members believed she had not treated them properly, despite her attempts to apologize for past mistakes. She tried to make amends, but they still misunderstood her intentions.
The misunderstanding about her behavior resulted in her exclusion from the primaries. Moreover, Madam Safo highlighted a larger issue that is causing concern in Ghana’s political environment.
This broader problem continues to affect many people involved in the country’s politics.
“That is why I stated earlier that we have fewer female lawmakers in Parliament,” Safo remarked, hinting that her treatment might be part of a larger trend affecting women in politics.
