It appears Afua Asantewaa Aduonum is using the attention she is currently receiving to promote herself and her accomplishments.
Last year, Asantewaa made an attempt to break the sing-a-thon record, but she ended up crying since GWR denied her application. As a result, she gained notoriety for choosing to participate in the longest sing-a-thon.
She was accused of knowing full well that she didn’t break the records because she was disqualified when the GWR revealed the results of her sing-a-thon in a tweet last week.
This caused some online users to take offence at her, with some claiming that she is taking advantage of the notoriety she gained during her sing-a-thon, which took place from December 24 to December 29, 2023.
However, Asantewaa responded to this internet user’s remark by saying that she was well-known even before her sing-a-thon and that anyone who believes that her GWR effort is the reason for her rise to fame ought to think again.
“First of all, sing-a-thon was not for fame because I already had it. I meet celebrities all the time and all those who passed through the Akwaaba village during my singing marathon were people I encounter often,” she said.
She went on to say that she had spoken with practically every famous person who had come to her aid and that it wasn’t the first time she had seen them.
Asantewaa acknowledged that she was already well-known in her own right, despite the fact that the Sing-a-thon helped a lot of people become aware of her.
“I am a journalist and I have interviewed almost all the actors, musicians and celebs who came to show me love at the Akwaaba Village, so it’s not like I was seeing them for the first time.
“Although I will not rule out the fact that sing-a-thon made a lot more people know about me, I was famous in my own way” she added.
