SOPHIA AKUFFO, YOU’RE BETTER THAN THIS – Gabby Otchere-Darko Blasts Former CJ

Former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo has come under fire from Gabby Otchere-Darko, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for joining other retirees in a protest outside the Finance Ministry on Friday.

In a series of tweets on Sunday, the president’s cousin argued that the former Chief Justice should have spent more time learning about the problems with the continuing Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DEEP) before siding with the pensioners.

Mr. Otchere-Darko claims that the government has reconsidered its earlier stance and decided on a 15% yield expiring in five years as opposed to the original 15 years, making participation by individual bonds voluntary.

“For a former CJ to take up a noble cause such as she did but at such late hour when all was done and for all that publicity, she owed it to herself and her social standing to have understood the issues far better than what she exhibited last Friday. She is bigger than that,” Mr Otchere-Darko tweeted.

But Mr Otchere-Darko was of the view that Madam Akuffo erred “big time in her basic appreciation of the issues”

“Why picket over something you don’t like (the improved offer) when you have the right not to sign up? Sorry, but I struggle to get her emotional outburst over-exemption!

“I hope she won’t volunteer to picket tomorrow and on the same issues when the time to sign up has expired,” he wrote.

When speaking to JoyNews while picketing on Friday, Madam Sophia Akuffo referred to the government’s decision to include seniors in the DDEP as wicked, insulting, and illegal.

She pointed out that the government may be held liable for breaching a contract.
