Media figure KKD, also known as Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, has advocated for a legislation that would put politicians who deceive behind bars.
He mentioned a program in Wales in which the government is in the process of creating a law to prohibit any politician or top public official who tells falsehoods from serving in public positions indefinitely.
KKD maintained that merely prohibiting corrupt politicians from holding public office is not enough in Ghana.
He pointed out that despite being disqualified for misconduct such as corruption, unethical practices, or nepotism, politicians usually still manage to live a comfortable life post their term, having benefited from their wrongdoing.
Mr. Darkwah stated that it is important to implement stricter measures, such as incarceration, in order to ensure their responsibility.
Speaking on JoyNews AM show, KKD said, “We must look at the possibility of enacting something on our law books so that those who lie in high office, those who lie in positions of public authority actually go to jail.”
