IDRIS ELBA ENCOURAGES GOVERNMENT OF GHANA TO PUSH EDUCATION IN CREATIVE ARTS AS A PRIORITY

Idris Elba, an English actor, wants to see Ghana develop its creative arts education in addition to establishing a film studio there.

In a Kumasi interview with Opimso FM, Idris stated that education is essential for those looking for jobs in the creative field.

“Part of the plan that we have, which is building a studio, is policy. Policy comes from government and it makes sure people can find a way to industrialize filmmaking,” he said.

But he also stressed the importance of taking creative arts education outside of the studio seriously.

“Education is key. Young people get educated. It is important that if you want to be an actor, a storyteller, if you want to be a cameraman, you have to go to school. School is a good entry point,” he said.

“So what we are hoping to do apart from our film initiative is to boost the education process,” he added.

Idris Elba said they would also figure out a method to include an educational component when bringing film companies to Africa.

“We are encouraging the government of Ghana to really push education in creative arts,” he noted.

When the actor paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo, on Friday, February 3, 2023, he said he was planning to develop a film studio there.
